Can Driving West convert my overseas licence for me?
Driving West provides driving lessons and PDA preparation. WA Driver and Vehicle Services manages licence applications, determines transfer requirements and issues WA licences. Start with the official overseas licence transfer guide.
Will I need a theory test or a practical driving assessment?
That depends on your country of issue, licence history and other eligibility requirements. Some eligible drivers can transfer without a theory test or PDA; other drivers must pass both. Use the current official WA transfer guide to check your pathway.
Are WA overseas licence transfer rules changing?
WA has announced an expanded recognised-country list for new applications made on or after 31 October 2026. The official guide explains the timing and which applicants it affects. Check the current rules for your application date; a future change does not extend your permission to drive on an overseas licence.
How long can I drive on my overseas licence after moving to WA?
The rules depend on your residency and licence status. Australian citizens and permanent residents moving to WA can generally use a current, valid overseas licence for up to three months and must apply for a WA licence within that period. You cannot keep driving on that overseas licence after the three-month period. Check with WA Driver and Vehicle Services if your arrival and residency dates differ. Visitors, including many temporary visa holders, follow different visitor rules. Check the official transfer rules for your circumstances.
What documents do I need for overseas licence conversion?
Prepare your overseas licence, the required identity and WA address evidence, the current application form, and any country-specific verification or other documents requested for your circumstances. Translation rules differ between pathways. Check the official recognised-country pathway or non-recognised-country pathway for the documents and any translation required.
Can I take lessons even if I do not need a driving test?
Yes, provided you are legally entitled to drive the lesson vehicle. A local driving lesson can help you get comfortable with left-side driving, roundabouts, intersections, road positioning and everyday Perth traffic. Tell us your current licence status when enquiring.
Do you offer automatic and manual lessons for overseas drivers?
Yes. Automatic lessons are available north of the river and with Gabriel south of the river. Manual lessons are offered in Perth’s northern suburbs. Tell us your transmission preference and pickup suburb so we can confirm coverage and availability.
Can I request a driving instructor who speaks my language?
Gabriel speaks fluent Spanish and offers automatic lessons south of the river. Mark speaks basic Spanish and offers automatic lessons north of the river. For manual lessons north of the river, Ken speaks English, Chinese and Bahasa; Angie speaks English and Maltese. Requests are subject to availability.
How much do overseas licence conversion lessons cost?
Single Driving Lesson is $80 for 60 minutes, Driving Lesson Plus is $115 for 90 minutes, and Double the Fun is $150 for 120 minutes. Government transfer and test fees are separate. Compare lesson packages and current test-day options. The number of lessons depends on your experience and progress.
Does an enquiry confirm my lesson or my PDA booking?
No. Our team will confirm your driving instructor, coverage and lesson time after reviewing your enquiry. Government assessments are a separate booking process. If you want a Driving West vehicle for your PDA, ask us to confirm availability before finalising your arrangements.
