It depends on the employer, role and vehicle. An automatic-only A restriction and a synchromesh B restriction are different licence outcomes. Check the exact wording in the job ad and ask the recruiter which restrictions they accept. Bring that information to us before choosing your training.
No. An HR licence can help you meet the licence requirement of a role that asks for it, but employers may also require experience, medical checks, other qualifications or site training. Our HR road-licence training is not mine-site machinery training or a job placement service.
Our indicative automatic and synchromesh prices are $340 for a two-hour HR Skills Session, $1,250 for HR Essentials and $1,590 for HR Extra Practice. Use these as a planning guide. Request a quote to confirm your tax-inclusive total, training plan, inclusions and assessment availability before booking.
An HR licence covers rigid vehicles with three or more axles and a gross vehicle mass above 8 tonnes. It also permits a trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM. Your transmission restriction still determines which gearboxes you may drive. See the official HR vehicle requirements.
Yes, if you meet WA’s HR eligibility requirements. You must be off your provisional licence and have held C for at least two years, or LR/MR for one year. Check your eligibility with Transport WA.
An A restriction permits automatic vehicles only. A B restriction permits automatic and synchromesh transmissions. Road Ranger is a non-synchromesh gearbox; passing a practical assessment in a suitable non-synchromesh vehicle is the route to removing B. Our course options here are automatic and synchromesh. If your job asks for unrestricted HR, check the employer’s exact requirement before choosing a course. Read the WA transmission restrictions.
Training time depends on your experience, gearbox and progress. The training plans show indicative hours; they do not promise assessment readiness, a pass or completion in one day. We’ll discuss your current skills, available dates and whether you need extra practice before agreeing on your plan.
Eligible existing licence holders do not need a separate HR learner’s permit. Supervision and learner conditions still apply, and you must meet commercial vehicle medical standards before instruction. Learning eligibility differs from licence eligibility: the WA class table permits learning after 12 months on C, or after gaining LR/MR. Check the current WA class requirements.
Essentials and Extra Practice estimates include an allowance for one assessment appointment of up to one hour. The HR Skills Session is training only. Your quote will confirm the assessment provider, theory arrangements, truck use and exact inclusions. Government application and licence fees are separate; check the current fees for your assessment pathway. Read the RTO assessment information.
Your HR upgrade must be endorsed by DTMI at a service centre or regional agent after you pass. You are not authorised to drive unsupervised in the new class until that step is complete. The documents required depend on your assessment pathway. Read Transport WA’s assessment and endorsement guidance.
